In the Spring of 1913, Indiana helps a young girl track down her lost family fortune that dates back to before the Civil War. The two children also research and learn about the Underground Railroad.
Underground Railroad - network of safe houses and secret routes that were used by African American slaves in the early to mid 19th century. Escape routes headed towards free states in America as well as Mexico and most prominently Canada, where it’s been speculated that over 30,000 slaves relocated to Ontario alone. Overall rough figures estimate that over 100,000 human beings escaped slavery via the railroad by 1850.
