[Depicted in Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb - an action game developed by The Collective Inc. and published by LucasArts in 2003. It was re-released on XBox One on June 10, 2019]

  • Indiana takes an archaeological trip to Ceylon where he learns about a black pearl buried with Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of China.

  • From there, Indiana battles the Nazis and the Chinese mafia (Black Dragon Triad), and later is reminded by his fried Wu Han that they’ve been offered a job by his rival Lao Che, to find the remains of Nurhachi, the First Emperor of the Manchu Dynasty in China.

  • Without any loyalty to the Chinese crime lord, Indiana tells Wu Han that Lao Che can wait.

  • Thus in this adventure, notable people referenced are:

  • Qin Shi Huang - Chinese monarch and founder of the Qin dynasty, and later the First Emperor of China once the country was unified in 221 BC. He specifically chose the title of Emperor, after previously rejecting the title of King.

  • Nurhachi - Jurchen (later Manchu) chief who united various tribes and established the Eight Banners military system, that helped defeat the Ming dynasty of China and the Joseon dynasty of Korea, laying the groundwork for the Qing dynasty that conquered the rest of China years later.

  • Hermann Göring - German political and military leader who was one of the most prominent figures in the Nazi party, at one point being noted as the second most powerful man in Germany. On April 22nd, 1945, Göring sent a letter to Adolf Hitler after being told that the Führer intended to commit suicide, requesting his permission to assume leadership of the Reich. Conversely, Hitler considered Göring’s request an act of treason, thus he removed him from all his positions, expelled him from the Nazi party, and ordered his arrest. Less than a year later, Göring was sentenced to death by hanging at the Nuremberg trials in 1946, though he committed suicide by ingesting cyanide hours before his sentence was to be carried out.

  • Locations in this adventure are:

  • Ceylon - Today known as Sri Lanka, an island country in South Asia that sits in the Indian Ocean. The documented history of the country spans 3,000 years, where evidence of prehistoric settlements date back at least 125,000 years.
